Passports

Passports can be applied for through the Assumption Parish Clerk of Court’s office. Applications for new passports, renewals and amendments may be obtained in our office. New passports must be processed by the Clerk of Court or the Passport Agency. Applications must be filled out completely and must only be signed in the presence of a Passport Agent.

Passport pictures are available to be taken in the office. Passport pictures are an additional $10.00. 

Passport book applications are accepted at the Assumption Parish Clerk of Court office and are good for air, sea, or land travel. Passport card applications are accepted at the Assumption Parish Clerk of Court office and are good for land and sea travel only. In order to obtain a passport book or card, the applicant must have the following:

  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship, I.E.; a certified copy of your birth certificate, a previous U.S. Passport, or a Certificate of Naturalization.
  • Proof of identity, I.E.; a valid driver’s license and a copy front and back.
  • One (1) passport photograph (studio picture, 2″x2″) with light background only.

Fees for Passport Book:

  • Fees are $130.00 for adults, aged 16 and over (an adult passport is normally valid 10 years from the date of issue).
  • Fees are $100.00 for children, aged 15 and under (a child passport is normally valid for 5 years from the date of issue).
  • Expedite fees are an additional $60.00
  • The above-listed fees are payable in check or money order to: U.S. Department of State
  • A $35.00 application fee, payable by separate check, money order, or cash is due the Clerk of Court.

Fees for Passport card:

  • Fees are $30.00 for adults, aged 16 and over (an adult passport is normally valid 10 years from the date of issue).
  • Fees are $15.00 for children, aged 15 and under (a child passport is normally valid for 5 years from the date of issue).
  • Expedite fees are an additional $60.00
  • The above-listed fees are payable in check or money order to: U.S. Department of State
  • A $35.00 application fee, payable by separate check, money order, or cash is due the Clerk of Court.

Turnaround times vary from the date the US Department of State receives the paperwork. The estimated times can be found on the website at travel.state.gov.

When applying for a passport, it may take up to 4 weeks from the day the customer completes the application to receive a status of the application online at travel.state.gov. Customers who check the status of their application prior to 4 weeks from the date they applied may receive a response of “Not Found”.  This means the application is still in transit to one of our passport agencies and centers.

If you need to renew a passport book or card that has not expired, you may pick up a renewal application in our office. If your passport has expired, you will need to fill out a new application form and submit your expired passport. If you have lost your expired passport, you may still fill out an application for a new one.

Children under the age of 16 require the signature of both parents or documentation as to why that is not possible.

If you are submitting an out-of-state identification, you must provide two (2) forms of photo identification. Examples include but are not limited to Driver’s licenses, work IDs, government-issued I.D., etc.
